Open Positions

Personal development and scientific discovery rely on curiosity, creativity, and multiple perspectives. As a team we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds thrive, no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or country of origin. We value and foster collaboration within and outside our group, and we welcome multiple approaches and points of view.

Currently Open Positions

We have an open position for a PhD student in microbiology/ microbial biochemistry in our group, focussing on RNA-Ln interactions and identifying new proteins involved in Ln-dependent metabolism of bacteria. The project aims to take a closer look at the regulatory landscape linked to Ln-dependent metabolism by employing sequencing-based small RNA and ribosome profiling.

Further we have two open interdisciplinary Master student positions on bacterial growth studies open for applications. The first project will deal with Bacterial Growth Studies with Artifical Rare-Earth Ores, a great opportunity to get insights into bioinorganic chemisty, microbiology and solid-phase chemistry (please contact us if you need an English project discription). The second project will deal with Bacterial Growth Studies with Rare Earth Element Traces in Red Mud and provide insights into bioinorganic chemisty, microbiology and environmental chemistry.

We are looking forward to your application, please find details on the projects below.

We are looking also for a student assistant (B.Sc. Biochemistry) who can help us in the lab for 5-10 h per week with protein biochemistry tasks. Responsibilities include autoclaving duties, preparation of media and buffers, and casting and running SDS-PAGE gels for enzyme purification, among others. If you are interested, please write to the biochemistry subgroup biochembioac(at)uni-duesseldorf.de with a letter of interest and your CV.

Bachelor Thesis/ Internship

If you are interested in a thesis or internship in our group, please write to the respective subgroup emails. In your email, include your motivation to work in our group (what piqued your interest?), which topic(s) are of specific interest for you (e.g the background, the techniques or methods used), a short CV and your current transcript of records. Also indicate when you would like to start and how flexible this date is. The subgroup emails are roughly divided by techniques used: Biochemistry/Enzyme subgroup: Rishir, Wouter, Kora, Alex biochembioac(at)uni-duesseldorf.de, Synthesis subgroup: Doreen, Mikey, Rachel, Jonathan syntheticbioac(at)uni-duesseldorf.de, Analytics/Lanthanide Separation with bacteria subgroup: Philippe, Sophie, Pia analyticalbioac(at)uni-duesseldorf.de. You can read more about their projects in the respective profiles. Please choose one subgroup only to write to - if we think you would be a better fit in another subgroup, we will forward your email to them!
